James Finger helped found the New School in Cincinnati, Ohio, a progressive school based on the work of Maria Montessori, John Holt and Paulo Freire. He has taught at public and private elementary and secondary schools and at the University of North Dakota. He also started the Estherwood Music Festival, the Riverdale Environmental Art Project, and the Computer Day Camp. His current projects focus on Urban Education through the Jump Start program and reducing the effects of race and income through the MPALS (Manhattanville Promotes Academics and Life Long Success) project.
