Meet award-winning teacher Erin Gruwell, whose experience as a first-time teacher was the inspiration for the movie "Freedom Writers" starring Hilary Swank.

About the Author:
Erin Gruwell has taught at the University of California at Long Beach, where some of her students are Freedom Writers. She is also the Founder and President of the Erin Gruwell Education Project, a non-profit organization that funds scholarships for disadvantaged students and promotes innovative teaching methods. She has won numerous awards and her story was released by Paramount Pictures in 2006.
