Touch of Theater
12.03.07
Craig Donnelly, Community Service Coordinator for the Duchesne Center, recently organized the finale event for the Duchesne Center's Touch of Theater program. The Duchesne Center website describes Touch of Theater as "a community outreach program in conjunction with Westchester ARC and South East Consortium. Here Manhattanville volunteers work alongside disabled young adults in Westchester County to teach them the art of theater and to produce theatrical works."
"I am happy to say that the Manhattanville Touch of Theater program has been going strong for the past three years," said Craig. "For anyone interested in volunteering with this program next semester, students meet every Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with disabled adults and teach them about aspects of theater such as monologues and scene structure. We also do fun things like play theater games with them that help to reinforce what they are learning. At the end of the program we have a finale event where the group uses what they have learned to create their own show to perform for their friends and families. The finale event this year had a really good turn out and I am proud of the students for all of the great work that they did in the program."
Students do not have to be a Theater major or minor to volunteer with Touch of Theater. Program meetings are usually held on campus in Brownson Hall. In Spring 2008 Craig will be organizing a similar program focusing on artwork called Touch of Art. For more information please contact Craig Donnelly at donnellyc@mville.edu
