Teagan Bigwood ThumbSophmore Teagan Bigwood is a President’s scholar with a 3.8 cumulative average. A sociology major at Manhattanville, Teagan spends her free time helping others. She’s a student co-coordinator of Connections, a group of volunteers who believe that there is much to be gained from intergenerational understanding. Each week, the volunteers in Connections visit a senior citizen apartment building and participate in activities with the seniors.

Teagan also participates in the Manhattanville branch of the student world assembly. This group focuses on global issues and is an internet based club. “This year the issue is human trafficking,” Teagan explained. “We want to bring awareness the community about the larger problems in the world.”

Last spring break, Teagan and six other students went on a service trip to Puerto Rico. They stayed in Jesuit housing, fed the homeless, and helped kids in a housing project learn English.

It comes as no surprise that Teagan wants to pursue a career that in some fashion helps people. “I think I’ll be a social worker or work in non profit,” she says. For now, she is enjoying life at Manhattanville.
