Marcos Martinez ThumbMarcos Reyes-Martinez is a senior at Manhattanville double majoring in Physics and Math.  He has been awarded a research fellowship for a scientific internship in Germany during the summer of 2008.  He will join a research group studying thin-film soft matter in the Physics Department of the University of Potsdam.

The fellowship is granted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through its Research Internship for Science and Engineering program and provides a salary to awardees while they spend a summer working at a German university or institute.  All undergraduates at U.S. colleges and universities are eligible, and the program is very competitive, so it is quite an honor for Marcos and for Manhattanville.  Marcos was also offered a prestigious IBM Research Internship Award, for research participation at their main research campus in San Jose, CA, but chose to take the German opportunity instead.

"I'll have the opportunity to experience some cutting-edge physics research," Marcos said.  "I am excited to combine my pursuit of physics with my studies of German!  I've been studying the language for five years now and have always hoped to study in Germany."

In his spare time Marcos enjoys working at the local Humane Society as a volunteer dog trainer.  His hobbies also include astronomy and chess.
