Dr. Nora C.R. Broege is an Assistant Professor in the department of Education Leadership and the Director of the School of Education’s Assessment Lab.

Dr. Broege's primary area of research interest is how educational experiences and outcomes differ based on students racial/ethnic backgrounds. She has conducted several studies on the racial/ethnic achievement gap in Prek-12 and has developed multiple quantitative frameworks for combining and assessing student achievement and experiential level data. One current project builds upon on PreK-12 work and looks at undergraduate students pursuing STEM related majors. Specifically, gaps in experience and achievement among Hispanic/LatinX students and the role that faculty experience and perception may play in creating and/or reinforcing these gaps.

Her work as Director of the Assessment Lab fuels her passion for data and analysis. In this capacity Dr. Broege catalogs and conducts analysis on student and program/certification area outcomes related to Accreditation for the School of Education. She also oversees all data requests and serves on the School’s Quality Assurance Committee as the data and assessment expert.

Dr. Broege’s teaching interests include inequality, social/educational theory, race/ethnicity, and methods/research design. She teaches courses on theory and quantitative methods in the doctoral program. She is committed to providing inclusive instruction and creating a space where students feel comfortable, respected, and safe. She has published on racial/ethnic inequality, culturally responsive education, curriculum implementation, combining multi-source data, and the experience of schooling.

Dr. Broege earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She also holds an MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and a BA in Sociology from Rutgers University. Prior to joining the faculty she was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies at Rutgers University, Newark.
