Data Science and Computer Science Accelerated Program
BA/BS Data Science and MS Computer Science Accelerated Dual Degree Program Overview
Manhattanville University’s dual accelerated data science degree program allows students to complete the undergraduate data science major and the Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science degree program in just five years. This enables them to enter in-demand research and industry careers at the intersection of data science and computing one year earlier than the typical time required to earn a graduate degree.
Two 4+1 accelerated degree program pathways are available:
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) Data Science + MS Computer Science
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Data Science + MS Computer Science
With the BA pathway, candidates can apply their electives toward another major or minor, or they can tailor their credits toward their unique interests. Students in the BS program receive more intensive and technical training in science and math courses, like calculus and probability.
Both choices allow students to become proficient in computer programming, machine learning, database design, natural language processing, mathematics and statistics, and professional communication skills. They also learn how to apply data science to real-world scenarios in finance, the natural sciences, the social sciences, the media, and other fields.
A combined BA/BS in Data Science + MS in Computer Science grants graduates a competitive edge in today’s job market. Their advanced training prepares them for senior roles in a wide variety of fields and increases earning potential.

The accelerated data science degree equips students with advanced proficiency in statistics, visualization and modeling techniques, in-demand programming languages, testing strategies, and database management. It also hones skills that employers value, like business analysis, teamwork, problem-solving, and excellent communication.
A 4+1 program helps students reach their professional goals sooner than traditional pathways. It also helps them save money on their education. Since students take up to 12 graduate credits as dual credits during their bachelor’s degree, they can pay for them using their undergraduate financial aid package.
The first two years of the program are devoted to foundational undergraduate courses. In year three, students can begin working toward their master’s degree. Throughout their studies, candidates can turn to the Center for Career Development to find relevant internships, boost their job-searching skills, and expand their professional network.
Years One-Two: Start your educational path as a data science major, engaging in coursework within the BA/BS in Data Science program and setting the stage for higher-level computer science studies.
Years Three-Four: After meeting with academic advisors and completing prerequisites, transition into courses credited to the MS in Computer Science degree.
Year Five: After completing your bachelor’s degree coursework in data science and beginning your master's coursework, fulfill the remaining requirements for the Master of Science in Computer Science degree.
The data science major trains students how to use data analytics, statistics, and programming languages to solve problems in a wide variety of fields, and they can tailor the flexible curriculum to their particular interests. We also offer other accelerated combined bachelor’s programs with the MS in Computer Science that fit other professional goals.

The data science major curriculum is robust, incorporating the latest technological advances and in-demand skills employers seek. General education requirements and electives provide a well-rounded foundation in critical thinking, research, and writing. Courses in the major cover statistics, computational thinking, calculus, discrete structures, and computation. The Senior Evaluation Research and Senior Evaluation Implementation projects offer the opportunity to apply your knowledge to designing and delivering solutions-based software.
Then, the master’s in computer science program takes your skills even further with advanced courses in topics like database design and construction and natural language processing. The capstone project focuses on applying your expertise to a real-world scenario.
Requirements for the accelerated data science + MS Computer Science program include:
- 12 core major courses and BA or BS requirements (120 credits)
- Nine graduate courses plus capstone computer science practicum (30 credits)
Accelerate your career and obtain a full Master of Science in Computer Science degree one year quicker than is typical by completing 12 of 30 graduate credits in the final years of your BA or BS in Data Science program.
A combined background in data science and computer science prepares you for some of
the most coveted roles in our tech-centric economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics
expects opportunities for data scientists to grow by 35% in the next decade. A master’s degree only strengthens your professional profile,
signaling to employers that you have highly specialized skills that can fast-track
your rise to senior-level positions. Specializing in AI, programming languages, cybersecurity,
game design, UI/UX design, cloud computing, or other subfields also increases your
chances of advancing in your career more quickly.
Some of the jobs you can get with a graduate computer science degree include:
- AI Engineer
- AI Researcher
- Cloud Engineer
- Cybersecurity Analyst
- Database Architect
- Games Developer
- IT Project Manager
- Mobile App Developer
- Software Architect
- UX Designer
Though supervisory roles may require some work experience after graduation, the salary potential of an entry-level role is higher if you hold a master’s degree. It also opens the door to more opportunities the further you go in your career.
Salaries With a Data Science Major and Master’s in Computer Science
Though a data science bachelor’s degree salary is competitive, wages for those who hold a master’s degree are usually higher, and the potential for increase as they gain work experience is stronger. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for data scientists was $103,500 in 2022. For computer and information scientist researchers — roles that require a master’s degree — the median wage jumps to $136,620. Other possible salary outcomes include:
- Computer and Information Systems Manager - $164,070
- Computer Network Architects - $126,900
- Database Administrators and Architects - $112,120
In addition to the 4+1 BA/BS in Data Science + MS in Computer Science program, Manhattanville offers other accelerated degrees that combine a master’s in computer science with a major in a related field. If you have your sights set on a graduate education in computer science, you can also choose from the following dual degrees:
