Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Teaching Pathway

This pathway provides a seamless transition to get a head start on requirements for professional teaching certification, which necessitates graduate-level education. Students in the BA/MAT program may take up to 15 graduate credits while still in their bachelor’s in education program.

You may receive initial certification after the BA. Then, receive professional certification in one or two areas after completing graduate coursework and student teaching.

Bachelor of Science Pathways to NYS Teaching Certifications

Manhattanville’s tailored Bachelor of Science (BS) degree programs in education offer comprehensive pathways to begin teaching preschool to grade 6 in New York. With one additional year of study, students can also obtain a Master's degree with a speciality area in Special Education, Literacy, or, TESOL.

Unlike the Adolescence Education program, which requires a double major in Education and a Liberal Arts or Science area, the Bachelor of Science in Childhood and Early Childhood programs are single major programs leading to careers as certified teachers in pre-kindergarten and elementary school settings. Students in the BS programs select a concentration in Liberal Arts and Sciences to complete their BS.

The Following Liberal Arts and Sciences concentrations are available for students in the BS pathway:

  • Natural Sciences
  • Social and Behavior Sciences
  • English Literature and Writing

In addition to the necessary workshop and NYS teacher certification requirements outside of academic coursework, the BS programs include student teaching experiences.

BS Early Childhood Education

The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education is a four-year degree preparing students to become fully certified to teach children from birth through second grade and positively impact their growth and learning.
