All prerequisites for the advanced certificate-only pathways can be found on their individual catalog pages, but in general, advanced certificate and professional diploma programs are for initially-certified teachers looking for further certifications or professionals in a related field who want to build on previous graduate education to become a teacher in New York.

Common prerequisites for most advanced certificate and professional diploma programs in education at Manhattanville include:

  • Master’s degree in a functionally related field
  • Foundational coursework

Science of Reading: Multisensory Instruction Certificate

Offered through the Rose Institute, the Advanced Certificate in Science of Reading: Multisensory Instruction is a 13 credit program that focuses on taking a multisensory approach to literacy education. Practicing teachers with bachelor’s degrees learn how to implement frameworks based on the work of Dr. Samuel T. Orton.

Dyslexia and Science of Reading Advanced Certificate (Online)

Partnership between the Rose Institute and The Windward School in Manhattan and White Plains produced the online Dyslexia and Science of Reading Advanced Certificate program. This program spans five semesters and aims to equip bachelor's degree graduates with three years of teaching experience, as well as those pursuing teacher certification through master's programs, with the skills to conduct literacy interventions and implement research-based programs. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience by working at a school for dyslexic children.

The Advanced Certificate Family Nurse Practioner program is offered in an online format

The online Advanced Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program provides the nurse, holding a Master’s degree in nursing, the opportunity to acquire an in-depth theoretical understanding of advanced nursing practice with individuals. Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner examinations.
