Manhattanville University Ranked as a Top Performer for Social Mobility by “U.S. News & World Report” for Five Years in a Row

PURCHASE, NY, September 24, 2024 – Manhattanville University has once again been ranked by “U.S. News & World Report” as one of the “Top Performers for Social Mobility” based on the 2025 Best Colleges rankings issued this week. For the fifth consecutive year, the university has been ranked as one of the top 3 private, non-profit institutions in New York State for Social Mobility in the Regional Universities North Category.  

“Our consistent ranking by ‘U.S. News & World Report’ as one of the top performers for social mobility is a testament to Manhattanville’s ability to truly transform our students’ lives,” said Frank D. Sánchez, Ph.D., President of Manhattanville University. “Many Manhattanville students come from lower socioeconomic brackets; more than half of new undergraduates identify as a first-generation college student. We are proud to offer our students the education and support they need to find fulfilling careers and move up the economic ladder.” 

In addition, this year’s “Best Colleges” list also included Manhattanville’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences’ undergraduate programs. Manhattanville was also recognized as a Top Value school and got high marks for a strong psychology program. Manhattanville University moved up overall in the “U.S. News & World Report” list of Best Colleges to number 74 overall and number 68 in Top Value schools.  

This year, undergraduate enrollment at Manhattanville grew 9 percent, with graduate programs and student retention up – marking the first time the University has seen three consecutive years of new student growth in more than 15 years. Manhattanville University is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education and has a diverse student body. Ninety percent of incoming undergraduate first-year and transfer students identified their race/ethnicity with 36 percent white, 35 percent Hispanic, 15 percent Black or African American, 4 percent Asian or Asian and another race. Manhattanville has also earned an Equity and Inclusion badge from Colleges of Distinction.  

The “U.S. News & World Report” Best Colleges rankings assess nearly 1,500 U.S. four-year bachelor's degree-granting institutions on as many as 19 measures of academic quality. In addition, factors such as financial aid, campus culture, and strength in specific majors are taken into account.
