As a student at Manhattanville University, you have specific rights and responsibilities that have been written to create a safe, inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

As you read through these community standards and rules, please remember that you are a valued member of our community. Your actions have impact on others, as their actions impact your experience.

 

 

 

Student Code of Conduct Policies, Standards, Procedures

In this section, you will have the opportunity to review detailed policies, standards, and expectations set by Manhattanville University to ensure the safety and well-being of the entire campus community.

Students that are alleged to have violated the Student Code of Conduct will be apprised of the allegations and afforded the opportunity to participate in a conduct meeting.

Additional Information

In this section, you will find policies relating to a student's personal interaction with the University. 

  • Damage to or Misuse of Property/Documents is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: 
  • Forgery, alteration, distribution, or unauthorized possession of Manhattanville documents, records, or instruments of identification 
  • Unauthorized use of Manhattanville’s name or logo inconsistent with the College mission. 
  • Dishonesty: All forms of dishonesty are prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:   
  • Cheating on student employment records, Admissions applications, Financial Aid documents 
  • Supplying false information to any University official 
  • In the course of a University judicial investigation 
  • Forgery or use of University documents or instruments of identification including university transcripts and letters of recommendation with intent to defraud.

In this section, you will find policies relating to welfare, safety, and environmental health.

  • Amnesty Policy
  • Noise: Excessive noise is prohibited as defined by local town ordinances and the Residential Community Standards noise policy. 
  • Weapons Policy
  • Drones Policy
  • Gambling is prohibited except at University-sanctioned events. 
  • Smoking/Vaping: In accordance with New York State Law, “vape/vaping” or smoking is not permitted inside any building on campus. Smoking is not permitted in or within 30 feet outside of any building. 
  • Fire Safety Policies
  • Personal Mobility Devices: Hover boards, Segways, Swagways, IO Hawks, Skywalkers, and other personal mobility devices (PMDs) are prohibited from the Manhattanville University campus. 

The following Residential Community Standards apply to all residential students and their guests/visitors in addition to the community standards listed above.

Additional Information

  • Failure to Comply: Failure to comply with the directions of University officials, Residence Life staff, or those appointed or elected to act on behalf of the University, acting under provisions of the Code of Conduct or in the performance of their duties, is prohibited. This shall include, but is not limited to, failing to produce identification to University officials when directed, failing to respond to personal directives, failing to evacuate a building during an emergency alarm, hiding or fleeing from a University official, and failing to comply with a disciplinary sanction. 
  • Sales and solicitation is prohibited: Students are not permitted to run a business out of any University facility. Unauthorized sales, canvassing, peddling, soliciting, and  distribution of any written or printed material by non-University individuals or organizations is not permitted on University-owned or controlled property without the written permission of the Office of Student Affairs or their designee. This includes the use of electronic mail and webpage solicitations. 
  • Violations of Criminal Law: Violations of federal, state, or local criminal law or actions that adversely affect the University and/or pursuit of its objectives are prohibited on campus or elsewhere and may be subject to disciplinary proceedings here. The criminal case burden of proof, obviously, does not apply to Manhattanville University cases. 

The Alcohol and Controlled Substance Policy reflects current rules, regulations and guidelines to be followed by Manhattanville students. Any changes to this policy will be communicated in writing by the Dean of Students and will be distributed campus-wide as an updated policy.

Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on gender in education programs or activities which receive Federal financial assistance.
