What is adolescence education?
At its most basic level, adolescence education refers to teaching general education requirements and subject areas in grades 7-12. However, this is a critical time in a young adult’s life. Middle and high school is where they learn critical thinking skills, effective collaboration, and working independently. It is also when they can explore their interests and choose some classes, like what foreign language to take. The adolescent education program takes these factors into account.
Do the MAT programs in adolescence education include student teaching?
Yes, student teaching is a core component of the program. After completing all education courses in the MAT, students earn real-world experience and apply their pedagogical learnings at one of our area partner schools. Student teaching assignments are supervised full-time and fulfill New York State Initial Certification requirements.
In addition to the master’s in adolescence education, we have other graduate programs that lead to teacher certification. All our programs meet NYSED requirements and are designed to provide maximum flexibility to working professionals with various backgrounds.
